Intimacy by Michelle Ryan and Torque Show
Australian dance-theatre piece "Intimacy" by Michelle Ryan and Torque Show recently traversed the globe to take up residence at the Southbank Centre in London lit with eight Philips Selecon LED PLprofile1 luminaires chosen by lighting designer John Ford. "I chose the PLprofile1 luminaires as I knew I needed something flexible to get as many lighting options as possible into a small space, and a conventional rig can be limiting in that sense," says Ford. "I used the PLprofile1 luminaires in dance booms, because I wanted a wide range of color, and they gave me the variety that made the design work.
Redbridge Drama Centre
Two of Redbridge Drama Centre's much-loved venues, the Lovegrove Theatre and Telford Studios, have recently received a delivery of over 50 new Philips Selecon PL range luminaires as a means to reduce the Drama Centre's energy consumption. "These Philips Selecon units have proved to be excellent in quality and flexibility and have enabled RDC to use a rig that utilizes half the number of units it would require if they were tungsten," says Technical Drama Officer Chris Bocking.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe
This year saw the Philips Selecon RAMA LED Fresnel and Vari-Lite VLX Wash luminaire made their Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut where a range of theatre companies put on up to 12 productions a day. Together the luminaires blended seamlessly with the numerous Tungsten fixtures, providing the various productions with a plethora of LED associated advantages. "Both the Selecon RAMA LED Fresnel and the Vari-Lite VLX Wash luminaires have beautiful dimming curves," says Owen Horton, theatre manager at C south. "They dim all the way down to zero without a bump at the bottom and they draw just 120W each. This means we can put the whole rig on the existing supply, plus they don't generate much heat which helps keep keep the audience and performers cool. Their versatility has been fundamental in the success of our designs."
