The Board of Directors of the Wally Russell Foundation announce the creation of the annual Wally Russell Mentoring Award in conjunction with the United States Institute for Theater Technology (USITT). The first annual award will be presented this year at the USITT Conference and Trade Expo in Cincinnati, Ohio, March 18-21st.Because of the commitment of both Board’s of Directors and the generous sponsorship of Philips Strand Lighting and Thern Stage Equipment, this award will be a permanent part of the USITT awards program each year at the National Conference. Channel 5 has chosen to specify Philips Strand Lighting eS21 Dimmers, a Palette VL Console, a 301 Backup along with a number of Philips Selecon luminaires to satisfy the lighting requirements of its new suite of compact studios within London’s Northern and Shell Building. The Buford Community Center, Town Park and Theatre is a state-of-the-art facility designed by BRPH architectural and engineering firm. The facility features banquet and meeting space, an outdoor amphitheater, the new home of the Buford Museum, plus the 290-seat Sylvia Beard Theatre. Complete with orchestra and balcony seating, plus VIP boxes, the Sylvia Beard Theatre portion of the new venue was designed by Graham, Swift and Company and is the perfect setting for local and touring theatrical performances, orchestra presentations, dance, or comedy shows, and it’s controlled with an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) dimming system and a Palette VL control console from Philips Strand Lighting.
A Great Relationship Built Through Light
HSN is an interactive multi-channel retailer delivering an assortment of exclusive products, and broadcasting live to over 96 million homes 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, 364 days-a-year. In an environment that only takes one day off, any lighting system would be put to the true test. So when Lighting Designer Mike Flack and Lighting Engineer Skip Glasco decided it was time for a system upgrade, they could have chosen products from any company they desired. What they chose was a C21 Dimming System, Palette Control Consoles, and PL3 LED Wash luminaires from Philips Strand Lighting; along with VL3500 Spot and VL3500 Wash luminaires from Philips Vari-Lite.
A World of Color at the Festival of Independent Theatres
The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) is a division within the City Manager’s office which creates opportunities for local artists and cultural organizations to showcase their talents. One of the performance venues supported by the OCA, the Bath House Cultural Center (BHCC), hosts an annual one-act play festival called the Festival of Independent Theatres (FIT), a four-week festival comprised of small theatre companies producing seldom seen, new, or avant-garde works. Now in its 14th season, the FIT is showcasing the work of eight local theatre companies, but it also showcasing the capabilities of the new Selecon PLCyc LED Luminaire from Philips Strand Lighting.
Parlights Theatrical Hosts a Two-Day Strand Camp
Parlights Theatrical Lighting & Rigging recently hosted a two-day console seminar titled "Strand Camp" which was an intense, hands-on session for console training. Alabama School of Fine Arts Theatrical Lighting Project
In April 2012, the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham raised the curtain on a new, 500-seat theater. Named after a beloved member of the ASFA Foundation, the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater is a versatile proscenium venue that can accommodate stage plays, dance recital, and orchestral and vocal performances. Behind-the-scenes, the theater serves as a state-of-the-art teaching facility for ASFA students, where they learn about all aspects of the performing arts.
International students participate in nonprofit Stagecraft Institute program
